Back From the USA

Hello Urban Women,

I have just returned from a wild trip to the U.S.A. I took the time to record some urban trends into my hand held recording device so that when I got home I could share them with all of you!

I felt totally at home in the U.S because a lot of the Americans like wearing Disney Ts and putting stuffed animals in the rear windshield of their cars. I have a few Disney Ts myself, but instead of leaving them in their traditional style I usually jazz mine up with a bit of puffy paint, a pair of scissors, and my bedazzler. I think Walt Disney would be proud of how his characters provide me with such inspiration. I also have a few teddy bears in the back of my car and I am sure to rotate the little guys around so their rich fur doesn't fade with the sunlight. Once I put SPF on a couple of my faves thinking it would stop the damage from the sun's rays, but instead it just made all of my teddies look like pre-teen greasers. Totally embarassing.

The other top trend that I noticed was toe nail decals. As many of you know I am a major fan of toe nails in general and I especially like the creative ones. I seen a few encrusted with jewels, and a few with nail art designs and funky decals. Obviously my top style pick were the toenails that were shaped into a point. It is sort of like Twilight meets Teen Wolf. I tried it out but while I was waiting for an appointment I noticed the point starting to poke through the little eyelet hole in my Crocs-so I filed it down in the waiting room.

I think I am going to relax now and crack open a bottle of my favourite designer wine (Barefoot Rose-you should all try it! The price point is very reasonable). Sometimes to make my evening drink a little special I add in a touch of crystal lite powder or a dash of Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Usually a glass of vino helps me get over my jet lag-I use this trick a lot when I come home from Edmonton.

Until next time,

It's Finally Here

Today had  a lot of highs and lows. I was really down in the dumps because Oprah had her last show yesterday. I mean 25 years is a long time. I hope my blog can leave a legacy like that. The thing is, it's not even Oprah that I will miss-it's Gayle and Nate Berkus. Those two are totally inspiring. So, to lift my spirits a bit I decided to go viral and put my blog online. I know it is a risk, but I am hoping it is a safe and healthy risk, not an unsafe -sex -type of risk. But prepare yourself for a blogging rollercoaster-because Urban Woman is here to stay!

This time of year I start to think about the summer solstice. I usually decorate my house with a giant sun pinata filled with great treats. I have a bunch of my closest friends over for shooters before we break open the pinata with a golf club. Sometimes I ask people to bring their own blindfolds because of the epidemic of eyelash lice that has been going around, but if I really trust them I will let them use one of my hand died and bedazzled masks. Here are some of the things I've filled my pinata with in the past:

  • Ikea coupons
  • Baby teeth that fell out
  • Ukrainian perogies
  • wallet sized photos of me
  • Salt and Pepper packets
  • Gobstoppers
  • Ecstasy tabs
  • Gourmet dog biscuits
  • Rose petals
  • Frozen berries
  • Previously viewed DVDs (usually anything starring Cameron Diaz is a hit)
I've also noted that "going green" is a big trend this year. I hope all of you urban women can contribute to helping our planet get greener by using extra fertilizer on your lawns and reusing your tin cans (for stuff like bacon grease and tea light votives).

Better get to bed-afterall I do need my beauty rest-blogging takes a lot of energy and after being on the computer I tend to get bloodshot eyes.

Yours in sisterhood,
